It’s a Gadget Revelation!

Innovative and inexpensive, the mango cutter is a kitchen must-have. What's for dinner? Mangoes, of course!

What’s worse than settling in for a little mango to find that you need a jackhammer to get that silly pit out. Enter the gadget of the century, the mechanism of the millennium, the mango’s tango.

Introducing the mango cutter from OXO.

The innovative design of the cutter has revolutionized the way we cut mangoes. The cutter has an elliptical centered blade that slides down around the pit, isolating it from the edible fruit. The result is two succulent halves, little waste and virtually no frustration.

The cutter was designed by Kevin Walzak, a minister in Syracuse who began with a prototype of copper and PVC piping. He took it to OXO and now the world can benefit from the fruits of his labor. The cutter retails for about $14 and is available at Target and most kitchen stores.

Critics of the device claim that it only eliminates the pitting step and you still have to slice the fruit from the skin. Also, it doesn’t work great on smaller mangoes. But we love it!
