The Relish philosophy
A weekly menu planner aimed to help busy families put wonderful meals on the table every night. No sloppy casseroles or expensive kitchen blunders. Instead look for everyday food that’s simple-gourmet, 30 minutes or less and a whole lot of fun utilizing everyday food!

Relish! was founded by Ann Bender and Karen Hutcherson, two busy Colorado mothers that found themselves in the what’s for dinner trap. Both women love to cook but didn’t have time to sift through cookbooks or search online for evening meals. What’s worse — they found themselves at the grocery store several times a week spending their clothing (and manicure) budget on prepared foods and ingredients that would languish in the crisper drawer long after the recipe was done. Family dinners turning into windshield meals were becoming the norm and they vowed to develop quick and easy dinner ideas. Whether you’re an empty-nester or a hectic family, a healthy, good-tasting dinner shouldn’t be out of reach. And this is where the Relish! story begins.

If you have a goal of getting organized and enjoying the dinner hour rather than dreading it— if utilizing fresh and healthy ingredients appeals to you and if you want to instill good eating habits with your children, then give Relish! a try. You’ll never go back to your old ways. Guaranteed.

Relish co-owner Ann Bender explaining about menu planning utilizing healthy everyday food

Ann Bender lives in Colorado with her husband and three children. Ann loves good food and feels that cooking for the family should be fun and not the dreaded chore it seems to be for so many people. It’s not the cooking that seems to be the problem, it’s coming up with the interesting dinners week after week. The term “dinner rut” is an understatement and so many people turn to the “taco-Tuesday” calendar of cooking.

But turning this perpetual problem into a prospective business is exactly the tact Karen and Ann took. They looked at the pitfalls of typical menu planning and came up with a fresh, new approach to the dinner hour.  The detailed grocery list was a pivotal part of the business as was the fresh, healthy approach to cooking. Using tons of fresh produce and lean meats helped launch the “simple gourmet” menu plan.

“The family dinner is on the verge of extinction, but we’re going to change that, ” she says, “And we’re going to provide the ultimate in organization and weekly meal planning.” Instead of 5:00 being the most dreaded hour of the day, it becomes an enlightening and peaceful time.

Relish co-owner Karen Hutcherson explaining about menu planning utilizing healthy everyday food

Karen lives in Evergreen, CO with her family. A graphic and web designer, Karen understands the intricacies of a web service like Relish! She also loves to cook but found that it became drudgery rather than pleasure.

“Once we launched our first weekly menu, the emails from stunned subscribers streamed in. Relish! provides the plan and all it takes from you is 30 minutes at the grocery store and 30 minutes each night. It’s simple and uses everyday food that’s available almost anywhere.”

The key to a successful website is being interactive with our customers. Fielding hundreds of emails with comments and suggestions have helped the company to grow in the right direction. Relish! subscribers don’t mind paying the small fee for the service since we are actually saving people money and time at the grocery store.

In addition to the weekly menu and grocery list, people seem to love the little extras on the site like dinner & a movie menus, dinner party plans and the seasonal holiday features. Everything on Relish! is simple to prepare but that doesn’t mean short on flavor or style.
