Instagram post 2106164651841770906_6415458982 Let's be honest, most of us only really like camp-side fires (and camping, frankly) because of the S'mores. The roasted and toasted marshmallows and melted chocolate are reason enough to go lumber through the woods looking for the perfect stick. Melted, sweet and simply sublime, S’mores are legendary for their melded flavors which are perfections.

Saturday is National S’mores Day. Yep, that’s a thing. We don’t know who declared it National S’mores Day, but many suspect it originally came about as a Hershey’s marketing campaign. Wherever it came from, it’s a day worth celebrating!

Here are a couple of creative ideas for a new kind of S'more!

1. Add a little cookie dough. Spread a thin layer of dough on the graham cracker.

2. Use Keebler Fudge Stripes or homemade chocolate chip cookies instead of graham crackers.

3. Add peanut butter or Nutella. Spread a thin layer on the graham cracker.

4. Use Mini Reeses Peanut Butter Cups instead of chocolate bars.

5. Dip your cooked marshmallows in Baileys and then assemble your S’more. YUM!

6. Make Nutty Banana Smores. Add a smear of Nutella and sliced bananas.

Food choices at the airport can be abysmal. Loaded with fat and calories—gobbling up a gut bomb is no way to start (or end) a great trip. Food options on airplanes have become more and more limited and you’re lucky to get a pack of pretzels or crackers. Unless you are traveling in business or first class, it's unlikely you'll have many options for food the next time you fly. We'll show you the best ways to pack your own travel meals at home to be fully prepared.

Instagram post 2100366542529512145_6415458982 Thyme Tidbits

Interestingly enough, insects are repelled by thyme. Make a cup of thyme tea, put it in a plant mister, and spray around doorways and windows in summer to repel insects.

The tiny leaves are easily removed from the stems by pulling the stems through your fingers from top to bottom, against the direction of the stems. Six average sprigs will yield about a tablespoon of leaves.

Fresh thyme should be kept refrigerated, where it will keep for about a week. It can also be frozen on a baking sheet and then stored in zipper baggies in the freezer for up to six months

If a recipe calls for 1 tablespoon of fresh thyme leaves, use 1 teaspoon of dried thyme.

Instagram post 2097346888965380901_6415458982 Here's something to get choked up about

The quintessential vegetable, the artichoke is actually a member of the thistle family. Left alone, an unpicked artichoke will blossom into a stunning purple flower but the real beauty lies at the base of the flower bud - the heart. The thick edible scales and bottom parts of the immature flower heads are a culinary delicacy.

Artichokes are available throughout the year but the peak seasons are spring (March through May) and September through December. Look for dark green artichokes that are firm and heavy and have "tight' leaves. If the leaves appear to open- the choke is past its prime. Fresh artichokes should be put in a plastic bag, unwashed, and then refrigerated in the crisper drawer and it's is best to use them within 4-5 days of purchase.

Cooking tip: To keep artichokes from turning brown while steaming, place lemon juice in the water!
